About Me

When I was in 7th grade, I had a science teacher named John Catalano. Mr. Catalano taught chemistry, and it absolutely captured my interest and imagination. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, from Northern Illinois University. After graduating, I worked as a lab technician and, later, as an analytical chemist. My job responsibilities have involved testing - performing a test using chemistry to determine the concentration of a certain chemical (called an analyte) in the substance being tested (called a matrix).

Right now, I'm taking classes at Trinity Christian College. My goal is to earn a Professional Teacher's License (P.E.L.) with endorsements in chemistry, biology, middle school, and (eventually) Earth and Space Science.

Since graduating High School, I have been involved in an organization called Science Olympiad. Science Olympiad is a middle school and high school competition, where teams (from schools) complete in science-related events. Teams earn medals and, if the team does well enough at a regional competition, it can compete at the annual state competition, at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. If a team wins at state, it goes to the national competition. I run chemistry events with this organization, like "Can't Judge a Powder", "Kitchen Chemistry", and "Chemistry Lab". My experience with Science Olympiad was one of the factors that led to my decision to go back to school to become a teacher.
