Bathroom/Water Breaks

If you want to use the washroom or get a drink during class, you must turn in one of your washroom passes, which are given out when the school year starts. You will get 3 passes per quarter. If you do not use them, they can be turned in at the end of the quarter for extra credit!

If you have a medical problem that requires you to go to the washroom or see the nurse frequently, please tell me about it. I want to minimize the distraction of having people coming and going from the classroom, but I do not want to cause anyone undue discomfort.

Late Assignments

Late Assignments will be accepted, with a 10% deduction in points, unless you talk to me beforehand. Turning your work in on time is critical to your success in chemistry. Chemistry, like most math and science classes, is very cumulative. Every idea that I teach builds on another idea that you learn, so you can find yourself falling very far behind very quickly, if you are not doing your homework. I try not to assign more homework than I have to, but it is very important that you work on the assignments you're given.

Making Up Absences

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get notes from your classmates, or to see me privately for help for the missed lesson. You can pick up handouts in the box at the back of the room. If you have checked and you cannot find any copies, then you can ask me for a copy.

Homework due the day you were absent is to be returned the day you return. Any homework assigned during your absence will be due the day after you return.

For instance, if you are absent on Monday and retur on Tuesday:

  • Homework that was due on Monday is due on Tuesday

  • Homework that was assigned on Monday is due on Wednesday.

Longer absences will be handled on an individual basis. Homework turned in outside these due dates will be considered late, and be handled according to the late homework policy.

You have 48 hours from your return to make up any tests or quizzes, unless other arrangements have been made.

If your absence is pre-planned, like a school field trip or a college visit, it is your responsibility to tell me about it before you leave, so we can make suitable arrangements.
